calm go the wild seas

“Go forward,” wrote d’Alembert, “and faith will follow”. He was writing in the 1700s, defending the calculus to those  unwilling to make the necessary abstract leaps in thinking needed to deal with the underlying mathematics (and remember what was considered abstract then is very different to what is considered abstract now). Anyway, the quote is about calculus, but it’s good advice for life in general. Or so I find.

I think that’s everything.
